2005 Wildlife 5876 Brahmaea wallichii insulata Inoue - 枯球籮紋蛾 Every March 3rd of the Chinese lunar calendar, is the birthday of the deity Suan-tian-shang-di (玄天上帝). Around that day. the Brahmid moth (枯球籮紋蛾) visits the statue of Suan-tian-shang-di (玄天上帝) at Shou-zhen Temple (受鎮宮) on Ali Shan (阿里山) in central Taiwan for a few days. So the moth is also called 神蝶 or "sacred butterfly." Both males and females can reach wing spans of 128~152 mm. Taiwan horse-mouth fish 台灣馬口魚 Candidia barbata an endemic species in 福山植物園水生植物池 Photographed in Fushan Botanical Garden 5/29 2005 Wildlife 9944 Trimeresurus stejnegeri, Chinese green tree viper or green bamboo viper (qingzhusi) or Taiwan bamboo viper, bamboo snake, red-tailed snake 青竹絲 (or 竹葉青, 赤尾鮐, 青竹鏢) of the family Viperidae 蝮蛇科 high in a tree. The green bamboo viper is one of 23 types of venomous snakes found on Taiwan. The poison of the green bamboo viper is a hematoxin which effects blood vessel permeability, and is a procagulant toxin which may cause swelling, severe pain, ecchymois and comsuption coagulopathy.
